How to Find a GREAT Children’s BOOK to use in the MUSIC Classroom

By Dona S. Ramsey ©2012

(enjoy the following bonus listing of a “few” great books to add to your library)

Half the fun of finding a new children’s book to use in your music classroom is the search process. Bookstores (both new and used), thrift stores (children’s section), yard, garage and rummage sales are great places to search for that “perfect children’s.” Most of us enjoy shopping but a few of us are passionate over finding just one more book to add to the collection.

Useful criteria for a children’s book includes content, rhyming (or not), short, with quality illustrations. Content is the first consideration. Content must be relevant to learning and age appropriate. If the book is a rhyming book, there is a good chance it can be sung. If it is a good choice but doesn’t rhyme, look for a repetitive theme and create a short repeated 4 line, 16 beat song.

Here is a listing of a few gems both new and old …
